Who I work with as a
kidlit book coach and editor

As a gay woman, I’m proud to work with other LGBTQ+ writers to help them
explore their creative ideas and get their stories out of their heads and onto the page.

But you don’t have to be an out and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community to work with me.

I also work with:

Writers who identify as queer but have not yet come out.

Client icon

People who are exploring their own identity by writing an LGBTQ+ story.

Client icon

Individuals who are simply drawn to writing LGBTQ+ stories for kids and teens.

Client icon

Active allies who are keen to support the LGBTQ+ community.

If you are committed to writing an LGBTQ+ story that is inclusive, respectful, and informed, then I’d love to help you.

My clients and I tend to have a LOT in common. We hold LGBTQ+ pride, visibility, equality and inclusion close to our hearts and share some fundamental beliefs.

My clients and I believe that …

‘She wasn’t just an editor, she was also a teacher’

Amy pushed me in the best of ways, and she really helped me to clarify my ideas. My story wouldn’t be what it is without her guidance. She wasn’t just an editor, she was also a teacher. Thank you!

I got so much benefit, joy, and encouragement working with Amy

I came to Amy with a finished manuscript, rough drafts of a query letter and synopsis, and dreams of finding the perfect agent. Amy helped breathe life into my query letter and synopsis and improved on them exponentially.

She even went above and beyond and found a perfect comp title for my book. I'd been researching agents on my own, and it was amazing how many perfect-for-me agents Amy found that I'd overlooked. She tied it all together by developing a detailed pitch plan that provided me with a road map through a stressful and difficult process.

Working with Amy showed me how much it pays to have that second and more objective pair of eyes on your work, no matter what stage of the writing process you're in. I got so much benefit, joy, and encouragement working with Amy on my pitch package. If not for Amy's skilled and knowledgeable help, I would not have felt nearly as prepared to dive into querying my book.

As I write this, seven agents have requested my full manuscript, any of whom I'd be thrilled to have represent me, and I feel hopeful I'll find the right agent for me and for my book in due time.

‘Amy’s sensitive and insightful questions encouraged me to think long, hard and critically’

I’ve been enormously appreciative of Amy’s support and kindness during the time that we have spent working on the first draft of my manuscript. She has really helped me to drill down and clarify my ideas about what I am trying to say.

Amy’s sensitive and insightful questions encouraged me to think long, hard and critically, leading to a huge realisation of what actually lies at the heart of my novel – something deeply personal within my own life that I hadn’t consciously recognised was the driving force behind my writing. The whole process has not only been cathartic but has also opened up a wealth of emotional layers that have added so much depth to my writing. Amy really is a joy to work with and she’s an inspirational book coach.

‘She patiently and professionally took me through my manuscript’

Working with Amy really helped me get to the core of an idea I have been struggling with for a while. She patiently and professionally took me through my manuscript, asking pertinent questions in key places and showed real understanding of what I was trying to achieve, even in places where I was unsure. I now feel more sure of where I am going with my story, and excited again about continuing.

‘Amazingly insightful, thorough editor who understands story’

Amy has been an immense help in meticulously editing my manuscript for a novel. She has the ability to catch errors that I tend to read right past. Also, she knows how to skillfully pose a question about the story so that I’m inspired to fix it. Excellent, excellent editor!

I’ve learned more than I could ever have hoped to

Amy has really helped me hone my writing capabilities. She asked all the right questions and aided me in figuring out the story I want to tell. She offered praise and criticism when applicable. Her professionalism, commitment, and transparency are attributes that made her a great editor and writing coach. I’ve learned more than I could ever have hoped to while working with her, and I look forward to working with her on the next project!
